The School for Wives is a theatrical comedy written by the seventeenth century French playwright Molière in 1662 and considered by some critics to be one of his finest achievements. The play depicts a character who is so intimidated by femininity (Arnolphe) that he resolves to marry his young, naïve ward (Agnès) and proceeds to make clumsy advances to this purpose.
For this project, it is split into two sections, the modern sourcing and the historical design. For both of these sections, I would like to express the story in a comedic way, targeting adult audiences. Both periods (modern America/ 18th century France) are set within a production company/ a troupe. The designs took inspiration from public figures and news, in response to the 'me too' movement within the entertainment industry, raising criticisms in a comedic way.
